Installing ReceiptMe

ReceiptMe is a Chrome extension available from the Chrome Web Store. It works in Chrome and any Chromium-based browser (Edge, Brave, Arc).

  1. Visit the ReceiptMe Chrome Web Store page.
  2. Click Add to Chrome, then confirm with Add extension in the popup.
  3. The ReceiptMe icon will appear in your Chrome toolbar. Click it to open the extension.
First time? After installation, you'll be prompted to connect an email account. You can skip this and connect later via Settings → Accounts.

Connecting Gmail

ReceiptMe uses Gmail's standard OAuth 2.0 authorization. It requests gmail.readonly to scan your inbox for receipts and gmail.modify only to apply a "ReceiptMe / Saved" label to messages whose receipt has been saved to your receipts table — so you can find tracked receipts directly in Gmail. It cannot send email or delete messages. Drive scopes are requested only if you enable Drive auto-import or PDF export. See the Privacy Policy for the full per-scope breakdown.

  1. Open ReceiptMe → click the Accounts tab.
  2. Click Connect Gmail.
  3. A Google sign-in window will open. Select your Google account.
  4. Review the permissions screen and click Allow. You'll return to the extension automatically.

Gmail is now connected. You can trigger a manual scan from the Dashboard, or let auto-scan (Pro) run in the background.

Connecting Outlook

Outlook uses Microsoft's OAuth 2.0 (MSAL). ReceiptMe requests Mail.Read to scan your inbox for receipts, plus Mail.ReadWrite and MailboxSettings.ReadWrite only to apply an Outlook category to messages whose receipt has been saved to your receipts table — so you can find tracked receipts directly in Outlook. OneDrive scopes are requested only if you enable OneDrive auto-import or PDF backup. See the Privacy Policy for the full per-scope breakdown.

  1. Open ReceiptMe → Accounts tab.
  2. Click Connect Outlook.
  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account and approve the requested permissions.
  4. Click Accept. You'll return to the extension automatically.
Business Outlook accounts: If your organization uses Microsoft 365 with conditional access policies, your IT admin may need to approve the ReceiptMe app. Contact support@receiptme.ai if you hit a block.

Scanning your inbox

There are two ways ReceiptMe scans your inbox:

  • Manual scan (Free & Pro): Click Scan Now on the Dashboard. ReceiptMe will scan the last 7 days (Free) or selected date range (Pro/Business).
  • Auto-scan (Pro & Business): ReceiptMe runs a background scan automatically whenever Chrome is open. New receipts appear in your dashboard within minutes of arriving in your inbox.

During scanning, ReceiptMe looks for emails containing purchase confirmations, invoices, and receipts from over 1,000 recognized vendors. Unrecognized emails are scored by the ML classifier.

The dashboard

The Dashboard shows all receipts found in your inbox, organized by date. From here you can:

  • Filter by category, vendor, or date range
  • Click any receipt to view details and the original email
  • Edit the category or vendor name if the classifier got it wrong
  • Export selected receipts as PDFs
  • Mark receipts as reviewed or archived

Vendor rules

Vendor rules let you customize how ReceiptMe classifies receipts from specific senders. This is useful if a vendor doesn't match its expected category automatically.

  1. Open ReceiptMe → Rules tab.
  2. Click Add Rule.
  3. Enter a keyword (vendor name, email domain, or subject keyword) and select the target IRS Schedule C category.
  4. Save. Future receipts matching that keyword will be assigned your category.

Free accounts get 3 vendor rules. Pro and Business get unlimited rules.

Exporting receipts

ReceiptMe can export your receipts in several formats:

  • Single PDF (all plans): Select a receipt → Export PDF.
  • Bulk PDF export (all plans): Dashboard → Export → select receipts and export as a single PDF.
  • Google Drive (Pro & Business): Connect your Drive account in Settings → Exports, then export directly to a Drive folder.
  • Google Sheets (Pro & Business): Creates a new Sheet with columns for date, vendor, amount, category, and receipt link.

Activating a license

After purchasing Pro or Business on the pricing page, you'll receive a license key by email from LemonSqueezy (check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive within a few minutes).

  1. Open ReceiptMe → click the Settings tab → select License.
  2. Paste your license key into the License Key field.
  3. Click Activate.
  4. Your plan tier will update immediately. The dashboard will show your new limits and unlocked features.
One device at a time. Each license key can be active on one Chrome profile at a time. To move your license to a new device, deactivate it first (see below), then activate on the new device.

Deactivating a license

  1. Open ReceiptMe → SettingsLicense.
  2. Click Deactivate.
  3. Your account will revert to the Free plan. The license key is freed and can be activated on another device.

FAQ

Currently, ReceiptMe supports Gmail and Microsoft Outlook (personal and Microsoft 365 accounts). Support for other providers is on the roadmap.
All receipt data is stored locally in Chrome's extension storage on your device. Nothing is uploaded to ReceiptMe's servers. OCR processing for PDF attachments uses a serverless function, but no data is retained after the response is returned.
The ML classifier has a confidence threshold — low-confidence matches are excluded to avoid false positives. You can lower this threshold in Settings → Classifier, or add a vendor rule to catch specific senders that are being missed.
Yes. You can disconnect any account from ReceiptMe → Settings → Accounts at any time. You can also revoke access directly from your Google Account security settings or Microsoft account settings.
